Shrouding By Night

 

 

In this rite, your circle is cast and you are nowready to pull in the Essence of Hecate herself, theNight.

 

 This is called Shrouding by Night.

 

 This riteis not meant to conceal, it is pulling in the Divineessence into yourself as well as your area toboost your magical strength and help to focusyour energy for your spells and other rites.

 

 This is a very simple technique that only requiresyour concentration.

 

 There are no invocationsinvolved in doing this.

 

 Here is the original text ofthis part of the rite: “Caste thy circle thricearound, Take a deep breath and focus on thysound.

 

 Pull from without to within, Her Sacred Power ofNight.

 

 To make thy power surge and soar, and make thyspell aright.”

 

 I will translate this poem line by line for you so it’seasy to understand how this works.

 

 Caste thy circle thrice around means to cast thetriple circle earlier described in this text.

 

 Take a deep breath and focus on thy soundmeans to quiet your mind, and focus on yourbreathing.

 

 Rhythmic breathing helps here tofocus your mind and center yourself.

 

 Pull from without to within, Her Sacred Power ofNight means to mentally will the energy fromoutside of the circle, the nighttime energy, withinthrough each layer of the circle to the center.

 

 To make thy power surge and soar, and make thyspell aright means that you are fusing this energywith your own, becoming one with the Hecateancurrent of energy giving your personal power aboost and increasing the effectiveness of the riteyou are performing.

 

 Here are the steps to Shroud by Night.

 

 Start off by standing in the center of your circle, Ilike to have the altar in the center so I don't haveto move around the circle many times but youmay also have it in one of the other quarters,preferably the eastern quarter.

 

 Take three deepmeasured breaths, and close your eyes.

 

 On eachIN breath, breathe in the night around the circle,bringing it into the circle, through the 3 layers.

 

 Letit fill in around your body, circling and swirlingaround you and then let it fill your body.

 

 When you feel like you have gathered enoughenergy within and around you, you may beginyour magical working.

 

 That is all there is to pullingin Hecate's Essence.

 

 
By now, you are probably wondering, “How do Iclose this circle?”

 

 There really never were anywritten instructions.

 

 I speculate that this wasbecause a lot of our family practices were oral, solittle was written.

 

 The following is how I have doneit my whole life, and my grandparents taughttheir children to do it.

 

 This is the first time it hasbeen written down that I know of.
