The hungry Englishman

 

 

 

An Englishman who was in France for a short visitwanted to go back to England.

 

 He had enoughmoney to pay only for the ticket.

 

 As he knew thatthe trip would take only two days, he decided thathe could live without eating those two days.

 

 So hebought a ticket and got on the ship.

 

 When dinnertime came, he was very hungry, but he said hewasn't hungry.

 

 In the evening he was still morehungry, but when the waiter came to ask him tohave supper, he said he was seasick, and he wentto bed hungry.

 

 Next morning the Englishman felt half-dead withhunger: "I shall eat," he said to himself, " even ifthey throw me out into the sea."

 

 So when dinnertime came he went into the dining-room and ateeverything that was on the table before him.

 

 Afterdinner he quickly got up and went to his cabin.

 

 Inthe evening when the ship wasn't far fromLondon, he ate his supper and said to the waiter, "Bring me the bill for my meals".

 

 "

 

 But you paid for your meals, when you boughtthe ticket", answered the waiter.
